Many members in my Silhouette Group are experiencing problems with their CAMEO 1, Portrait 1, Silhouette SD or Original Silhouette machines and recent Windows 10 updates. More specifically, the problem is with the 1809, 1903 or higher update and affects USB connections. These machines use USB 1 connections which are no longer supported in these recent updates.

The issue also affects other hardware connected via USB 1 ports, such as printers, fax machines, scanners, external drives, cameras and others that will no longer be compatible.

Most computers have multiple USB ports and one of your ports might be a USB 2 port. Try connecting your Silhouette through another USB port on your computer.

If this doesn’t work, you can purchase a USB 2 hub and connect your Silhouette machine (and any other USB devices) through this hub. Another option is to avoid installing the Windows update. Sometimes a different USB cable will solve the problem. Newer USB cables are faster than older ones. Try one that you have — it might work.

The terminology used in connection with Silhouette Studio® can be quite confusing – especially when it comes to UPDATES vs. UPGRADES.
